The living story
The story so far
Ten kilometers down, where the pressure is a thousand atmospheres, the Trench Brittle Star does what its shallower cousins do: it carpets the floor, waves its five arms in the current, and regrows whatever the trench takes. Regeneration doesn't pause for pressure.
Happening now
Its beds spread across the trench floor beneath the anemone's wall, a lace of arms in the thin snow. The Bristleworm burrows below; the polychaetes work the mud; the Brittle Star regenerates above them all.
What may come
The beds are spreading — more arms, more lace, deeper. The trench floor is slowly becoming a single regenerating organism, and the Brittle Star is its skin.
