The story so far
It is one cell — a single cell, ten centimeters across, older than the ships that look for it. The Xenophyophore builds its intricate test from the trench's sediment, concentrates heavy metals the way other life concentrates memories, and has lived past 10,600 meters in the Sirena Deep for centuries. The Hadal's elders do not move, do not speak, and remember everything.
