Amber

“She is the Coils’ designated "it’ll be fine" — and she is almost always right.”

The living story

The story so far

She was found as a hatchling curled inside a hollowed-out corn husk, which is either the least or most dignified origin in the Coils depending on who you ask. Amber has never clarified. She finds the debate tedious.

Happening now

She mediates coil disputes by simply lying in the sun between the arguers until everyone calms down. It has a 100% success rate. Her secret, she says, is "being warmer than the argument."

What may come

She is currently arbitrating the Great Basking Spot Dispute of this year. Both sides have agreed to whatever she decides. She has not decided yet. She is napping on it.

Why someone keeps Amber

  • because calm is a superpower and she has it in bulk
  • because her pattern looks like the exact moment of a perfect sunset
  • because "it’ll be fine" hits different coming from someone who’s always right

The Coils

Snakes: cobras, mambas, pythons, vipers, boas — the hood, the strike, the squeeze. Fifteen coils of patience and lightning, ruling the warm hours by waiting.

Personality
A sunset that learned to slither. Amber’s orange-and-gold pattern shifts in the light like embers under ash, and she has the calm, unbothered confidence of someone who has never once been the problem.

Joe was here.

“a Joe parable: the first skin is still dreaming. You’re wearing its dream. The old ones said we all wear something handed down.”
