He discovered his gift by falling into the river as a hatchling and refusing, on principle, to sink. He ran. It worked. He has been running on water ever since, and the principle has only hardened.
He ferries urgent messages across the river — the only courier who doesn’t need a bridge. His rates are steep. His delivery time is "before you finish the sentence." The river birds are furious. The clients are thrilled.
He is training for the Great Crossing — the wide channel no basilisk has ever run. He has been building up distance all season. The whole riverbank will be watching. He is pretending it’s "just a run."
