The living story
The story so far
She moved into your basement years ago and never paid rent, but she evicted every spider that meant you harm. Cellar considers the arrangement obvious: she gets the corners, you get the protection, everybody wins.
Happening now
She is vibrating her web into a blur because a moth sneezed nearby. Cellar startles at everything and fears nothing — a combination she considers perfectly reasonable.
What may come
Winter will drive the last of the house spiders indoors, and Cellar will broker the annual basement peace treaty. Terms: no eating each other before spring. She enforces it personally.
“One dawn Cellar found a single unfamiliar thread woven through her basement web — older than the house, older than the street. She vibrated it, and it vibrated back. Zebra watched the whole thing from the fence and filed her longest report ever; the thread is gone now, and the basement is quieter.”
because she guards your home from the spiders that actually mean harm
because she startles at moths and fears nothing — courage in a comma
because keeping Cellar feels like inheriting a tiny, vibrating guardian
The Night Silk
Net-casters, spitters, fishers, and assassins who hunt only other spiders. They work the hours nobody else wants and tell the best stories — but only after midnight.
