The story so far
Trochosa works the night shift, hunting the dark meadow while the web-spinners sleep. She guards her nursery web like a dragon guards gold, and her babies ride on her abdomen for weeks. First one off buys dinner — that is the rule, and she enforces it.
Happening now
It is 2 a.m. and Trochosa is on patrol, her abdomen a crowded nursery of clinging spiderlings, every one of them accounted for. A moth blundered into range. Trochosa is a professional; the moth is a memory.
What may come
When the babies finally disperse, Trochosa will rebuild her strength on the autumn moth run and settle in for winter. Next spring, the night shift starts again. It always does.
