Peepal

Peepal has heard everything and repeated nothing. The sacred fig — heart-shaped leaves that tremble in still air, the Buddha's tree, twenty-five centuries of seekers sitting beneath — is the Deep Root's eerie witness, and they take the post seriously. Kings confessed under those leaves. Lovers whispered. Armies prayed before battles and wept after. Peepal kept it all. "A witness," they say, "is not a gossip. The difference is the telling." Young trees come hoping for stories of the great ones; they leave with silence and the uncomfortable sense of being fully seen. The faction's ledgers hold the Missing Ring's measurements; Peepal holds something rarer — the memory of the year itself, watched from stillness, never written down. Asked directly, they tremble their heart-leaves once. "I was there," they say. "That is the whole of it. That is always the whole of it."
