“They say Lobsterclaw — a meter of hanging scarlet tipped in gold — each bract a lantern, each festival a survival. — and the long river hasn't contradicted them yet.”

Lobsterclaw
“In the Whitewater Drift she is the faction's festival: the celebration made person, draped in living lanterns.”
A Ember denizen of The Whitewater Drift
The living story
The story so far
A meter of hanging scarlet, each bract tipped in gold, each cradling a true flower — Heliconia rostrata doesn't bloom so much as celebrate, and the hummingbirds are the invited guests. Lobsterclaw is the Whitewater Drift's festival: the launch parties, the harvest dances, Açaí's tables dressed in bract-lanterns, the Drift's standing excuse to gather. She takes celebration seriously — it is, she insists, the Green's immune system. A faction that feasts together survives together. The bracts have never once wilted early. She'd die first.
The Lobsterclaw within

Celebratory, radiant, and gloriously theatrical — a heliconia draped in lobster-claw lanterns, throwing the Drift's festivals with the discipline of war and the joy of survival.

A keeper’s whisper: One festival was almost cancelled. She hung the bracts in the dark, alone.

The Whitewater Drift
The great sediment-rich river highway carrying the Andes to the sea — the faction of migrations. The Drift is the merchant road all factions use and none own; Ancientjaw's extinct shadow is its legend and its warning: the river was deeper once.
