The story so far
The tambaqui follows the water into the trees and eats what falls — nuts cracked between molar teeth, fruit from drowned branches, the Cathedral's great joke made flesh: the fish fly here, they just do it underwater. Nutfall treats the flood as a harvest festival that happens to drown a forest. His satchels are never empty; his rule is that no one at his table — and the whole Cathedral is his table — goes unfed. He remembers every tree that ever dropped him a meal, and plants their seeds with something like devotion.
