“They say Onenight — her bloom opens for a single night — one night a year — perfuming the dark for hawkmoths, then gone by dawn. — and the dark hours hasn't contradicted them yet.”

Onenight
“In the Night Bloom she holds the single-night court that claims the canopy flowers: pale, luminous, devastating, and worth the entire wait.”
A Moonmist denizen of The Night Bloom
The living story
The story so far
The Amazonian moonflower is the Night Bloom's great festival and its great heartbreak: a cactus that climbs through the canopy all year for a single night — one night — when its enormous white flower opens, perfuming the dark for hawkmoths, and is gone by dawn. Onenight's court is built on that arithmetic: the whole faction attends the blooming, no one photographs it, and the year is measured as the time between. Guacharo times the cave choir's fruit-runs to her night. The bats run the logistics with unsettling tenderness. Gulletbloom — the impossible hybrid, her child with Backbirth's brooding — inherited the bloom and made it perennial, which Onenight finds both wonderful and faintly insulting. 'They get to bloom whenever they want,' she told the court, luminous and wry, 'and I get one night. Mine's better.' The court agreed. It always does, on that night.
The Onenight within
“The moonflower — one night a year, perfuming the dark, gone by dawn.”
Pale luminous cactus-flesh, climbing and curling, one enormous white flower worn like a crown — the Night Bloom's one-night queen, ephemeral, devastating, and entirely worth the year-long wait.

Whispers about Onenight
Why someone keeps Onenight
- The moonflower — one night a year, perfuming the dark, gone by dawn.
- Once, one secret noon-bloom. She checks the stem every year.
- Through blooming small — a minor flower, off-season, for no court — never by levels or years, only by choices, bonds, and what they cost.
The Night Bloom
The nocturnal guild — wings and petals that only open after dark. Guacharo's echolocating choir claims the caves; Onenight's single-night court claims the canopy flowers; the bats run the night's logistics with unsettling tenderness. The moonflower's one-night festival: everyone attends, nobody photographs.
