The living story
The story so far
Nia started grooming as an infant, picking through her mother's fur with unusual focus. Thirty seasons later she can read a troop's whole history in its scars — and she remembers which ones still ache.
Happening now
She is currently tracking a limp in old Meron's left side that even Meron insists isn't there. Nia is patient. Nia is always right about limps.
What may come
She has begun teaching the young ones — not grooming, but noticing. 'The noticing,' she says, 'is the grooming.'
