The story so far
The barkless dog. Fig doesn't bark — she yodels, a sound best described as a question nobody asked. Ancient Egyptian hunting dog, modern chaos goblin: she has climbed the bookshelf to prove a point about gravity, and the point, apparently, was that gravity wins but Fig lands on the good chair.
Happening now
She has learned to open the treat cabinet, and the yodel she produces upon success is so triumphant that the family can't even be mad. The cabinet now has a child lock. Fig is studying the child lock. The yodel will return.
What may come
Fig will eventually yodel at something ancient and important — the moon, a pharaoh's ghost, the concept of rules — and it will echo the way it echoed off tomb walls four thousand years ago. Some sounds are load-bearing across millennia.
