“On the coldest nights the flames lean toward the treeline, as if making room for someone. Luna goes still and Biscuit stops mid-wag. Nobody mentions it in the morning.”
Watch the fire, not the dark.

“It is the reason dogs exist — and it is never fully shown, never for sale, never explained.”
A Night dog of Mythic: The First

Before names, before breeds, before any of it: a wolf stepped out of the treeline on a winter night and lay down near the fire. That is the whole story. That is the only story that matters. Everything else is commentary.
The First doesn't appear. Not quite. But on the coldest nights, the flames lean toward the treeline as if making room — and Luna goes very still, the way you do when someone you owe everything to walks in. Nobody asks her about it.
Ask the wind. Ask the dark between the stars. If the First ever fully shows itself, the universe will have to decide what it is — and some questions are load-bearing. Leave this one alone.

Watch the fire, not the dark.
“A wooden figure was seen at the old campfire, the Lost say — faceless, patient, tending flames that were lit before any of them were born. Voyager swears it waved. Nobody believes Voyager. Voyager doesn't care.”
The keeper tends every fire.
“Dune claims the First is older than paint — 'Before me, there was the choosing.' Pressed for details, she only says the desert was colder that night, which makes no sense, which is why everyone believes her.”
Older than paint.
Before the breeds, before the packs had names, one wolf walked out of the treeline and chose the fire over the dark. The First is not a prize. It is the reason dogs exist.
