The story so far
Four thousand years of royalty in a greyhound's body. Zephyr's ancestors coursed gazelle beside pharaohs, and she still runs like the desert wind owes her money. She is aloof with strangers and worshipful with her chosen three people — the choosing took months, the worship is permanent.
Happening now
She has selected a fourth person, provisionally: the neighbor's quiet daughter, who sits still enough to be evaluated. Zephyr watches her from the fence line, considering. Royalty does not rush. The girl brings better treats each week. This is helping.
What may come
One day Zephyr will run the way her ancestors ran — not at a lure, not at a track, but at something real across open desert, just once, to remember. And then she'll come home, because home is where her three (possibly four) people are.
