The living story
The story so far
The demon-queller of the Dipper: one-legged, fierce-faced, brush in one hand and bushel in the other, standing on a giant turtle among the stars. He hurls the writing brush at scholars he favors — being hit by Kuixing's brush means topping the exams. Students pray to him and duck at the same time.
Happening now
He is balanced on the turtle tonight, brush raised, scanning the examination halls below for a scholar worth hitting. His aim is famously terrible and famously perfect.
What may come
One night he will throw the brush and miss the scholar entirely — and the brush will keep flying, past the Dipper, past the turtle, into the dark between stars, where it will write one perfect character on the night itself. The scholars will read it in the morning. It will say: enough.
