The living story
Inkmire was born where a mire river slid past an ink stone, half in olive water and half in black-and-white wash. Sunda's river taught her to be sincerely herself no matter what she was called, and the Wuchang's paired walk taught her that every arrival is also a farewell.
She walks the bank at dusk painting brief, honest sentences on the water with her reed brush, each one legible for a breath before the current carries it to whoever downstream needed it most.
One dusk she may paint a sentence the river refuses to wash away — and she will have to decide whether to follow it herself.
What others saw
“If the river keeps your words, they were never yours to keep.”
Inkmire paints only what she is willing to let go.
“Half of her is the ink, half is what the ink leaves white.”
Her black-and-white split shifts a fraction with her mood.
“She smiles with a snout full of fine teeth and means it kindly.”
Like Sunda, she has heard the wrong name for years and stayed herself.
