It hums while it works, three notes on repeat, and can never resist drawing a visitor into its next map.

The living story

The story so far

Rootweave hatched in the hour between Longface's last painting and Aurelia's newest web — a knot of golden silk tangled around a dropped paintbrush, already drawing before it could walk. It learned two inheritances at once: its father's patience for the underground dark, and its mother's belief that beauty is a load-bearing structure. Its first weave was a map of Longface's pantry, spun so fine the tubers glowed like lanterns through the thread.

Happening now

Rootweave is currently unpicking a whole corridor of its own map — not because it was wrong, but because the roots moved, and it refuses to keep a lie on the wall. Every thread is being re-measured, every sketch redrawn. Nothing stays pinned up unless it is true.

What may come

If the weave holds through the deep winter, Rootweave means to follow the oldest roots down to where the Undertow ends — to the one pantry no painter has ever finished. It keeps a blank spool ready. Some weavers collect silk; Rootweave collects beginnings.
