“Aurelia has never once apologized for the size of her web, and she never will.”

The living story
The story so far
Aurelia was born in a meadow that gets the last light of every day, and she decided early that her web would be worth looking at. She spins silk the color of late afternoon — not because she has to, but because she believes beauty is a load-bearing structure.
Happening now
She is currently rebuilding the east quadrant of her web for the third time this week, because the wind had opinions and so did she. Every strand is re-measured. Nothing leaves her web unless it is perfect or lunch.
What may come
Come autumn she will lay her final sac and fade like all orbweavers do, but her silk will outlast her — golden threads found in hedgerows months later, still holding. Some things you build keep working after you are gone.
“Gardenia found her orb re-tensioned one morning — every radius perfect, the spiral tighter than she weaves it. No visitor, no vibration, no explanation. She has not told the others. She rebuilt it exactly the way she found it, just in case.”
The First Spinner visits the orbweavers' webs and leaves no footprints.
