Her signature move: pressing a clawed footprint and fanning her frill over it, leaving a glowing signpost on the trail for anyone brave enough to follow.

The living story

The story so far

Trailfrill hatched into the space between two gifts that seemed to have nothing to do with each other: her father Trackway's unerring millipede sense of direction through dead country, and her mother Umbrella's spectacular frill and ninety-percent-sweetheart temper. For her first season she wandered the empty roads between universes, walking where no path existed and flaring her frill at every strange noise — until she noticed the roads she walked were staying walked. Her footprints glowed faintly for days after she passed.

Happening now

Trailfrill now walks patrol loops through the wild borderlands between galaxies, laying frill-marked trails so lost Sparks can find their way home. She travels slowly — her father's pace is a yard wide, every step — but her frill snaps open at any ambush, and the borderland roughs have learned what the rust-and-cream flag means: turn around.

What may come

She dreams of drawing every safe passage in the multiverse into one great atlas, starting with the old water-roads her father still hears. Trackway has offered to walk the first route with her — blind to faces, unerring with paths.
