Their signature ritual is the Dawn Hold: they settle between disagreeing parties, smoke curling, and do not move until both sides have said the true thing.

The living story
Vespercoil was found coiled around the disputed stone at the crossroads of two neighboring villages — neither side could say how long the stone had been argued over, only that the arguing stopped the day a bronze-and-blue serpent settled onto it and refused to leave. By the third dawn, both villages had spoken their true grievance aloud for the first time in years, and the stone now marks the shared well.
Vespercoil walks the dawn lines — the hour when day and night negotiate — listening to arguments too tangled for daylight. Keepers leave disagreements at the threshold; the serpent takes each one apart like a knot of thread, the gold side for one voice, the blue side for the other.
Some say a day will come when Vespercoil's golden seam-stitches finally stop stitching — when day and night will no longer need a mediator, because the whole world will have learned to hold both sides at once.

“A keeper who tried to unpick Vespercoil's golden seam-stitches found them sewn shut again by morning — with two extra stitches, and a tiny note folded into one: 'You are missing half the story.'”
The note was in the keeper's own handwriting. The keeper never wrote it.
“On the winter solstice, Vespercoil does not move at all — not for food, not for storms. They say the serpent is holding the longest night and the shortest day apart until both agree to trade places.”
Every solstice, the trade goes through. Every single one.
