The story so far
Megaloceros giganteus: the 'Irish elk' that was neither Irish nor elk, carrying twelve feet of antler — the largest headgear in deer history, forty pounds of bone held high. Antlers knows exactly how absurd this is. In the Undertow he runs the Winter's rutting-ground exhibitions: displays of strength and splendor, all ceremony, no blood (house rule three). He teaches the young stags that the antlers were never the point — 'The point,' he says, lowering the cathedral, 'was carrying them well.'
