The story so far
Eryops megacephalus — 6.5 feet of Permian amphibian, the 'big head,' a walking head with legs wading the coal swamps 270 million years ago. Frogfather earned the name the old way: by being there when the troubles came. In the Undertow he is the Crawling Dark's pond-boss — gruff the way deep water is gruff, generous the way a pond is generous. The young ones bring him their endings; he listens with the whole massive skull and dispenses counsel that is mostly 'sit down' and 'eat something' and, when it matters, 'I'm still here.' Sting, the faction's mapmaker, charts his pond as two ancients of the Paleozoic. 'Everybody's got troubles,' the Frogfather says. 'The pond's big enough for all of 'em.'
