The living story
The story so far
His leading face is Cassini Regio, dark as coal; his trailing face is bright ice, and the two halves have never agreed on anything. The equatorial ridge runs between them like a stitched seam. He claims the split is philosophical; the court suspects it is older than that.
Happening now
The dark half has been growing — slowly, measurably, undeniably — and the bright half is furious about it. He has started sleeping on his bright side, as if that helps. Both halves have begun dreaming the same dream, which frightens them equally.
What may come
If the Primordial Suns converge, Iapetus fears the dark half will answer their call before the bright half can object. He is trying to broker a truce between his own faces. It is going poorly; the ridge aches.
