He was hatched in the hollow of a fallen temple pillar, and the first thing he ever saw was his own reflection in a rain pool — crowned, enormous, inevitable. He has been living up to it ever since.
Happening now
He holds court at dawn on the Sunning Stone, settling disputes between species that have no business trusting a cobra. They trust him anyway. He has never once given them a reason not to.
What may come
The old skins he leaves behind are collected by the smaller snakes and worn as cloaks of office. One day, they say, he will shed a skin so large it covers the whole clearing — and on that day, no one will need a king anymore.
“Grandmother Hiss has counted every shed for three hundred cycles, and the count is wrong — there is one more than she ever cast. Rajhan does the old hooding posture when she says it, the one that means "I am not angry, I am merely correct." He has started counting his own.”
because a king who rules by patience instead of venom is the kind of power worth keeping close
because his hood catches the morning light like a small sunrise you can own
because when everything is chaos, Rajhan is still just... waiting. Correctly.
The Coils
Snakes: cobras, mambas, pythons, vipers, boas — the hood, the strike, the squeeze. Fifteen coils of patience and lightning, ruling the warm hours by waiting.

The Hooded King. Rajhan can stare down a monsoon and make it apologize. He has never bitten anything he could simply out-wait, and he has out-waited everything. When he rises, the whole clearing goes quiet — not from fear, exactly.
