The living story
The story so far
She was born on a sun-warmed stone wall and decided on day one that walls were the finest real estate in nature. Grayling has owned the same three square feet of wall for two summers and rules it with visible opinions.
Happening now
She is basking on the south face of a garden wall, rotating through her sunbathing positions with the discipline of a tiny lifeguard. A fly just landed two inches away. It has been assessed.
What may come
The wall will cool and she will vanish into a crack, but walls keep heat and memories. Next spring she will be back on the same stone, judging the same shoes, and she will remember yours.
