The story so far
Thylacoleo carnifex — 'carnifex,' the butcher — had premolars like bolt-cutters and, pound for pound, the strongest bite of any mammal that ever lived. A marsupial. A lion that was a pouched cousin of wombats. Boltcutter has won the Sundered South's 'Most Preposterous' three years running, campaigning fiercely each time ('Vote Boltcutter: the bite backs it up'). The South elected her because she's the best argument the faction has: the world's strangest drafts, it turns out, were also its most magnificent.
