The story so far
Before crabs, before shrimp, before almost everything with a shell — there was Canadaspis, sieving the Cambrian sea one mouthful at a time. Sieve has never hurried since. In the Undertow they are the resident listener: stories drift in, the important ones stick, the rest wash through. The Last Ones bring their grief to Sieve, because Sieve never tries to fix it — just holds it gently in the basket-limbs for a while, then releases it to the current.
