At 7,966 meters, in the Mariana Trench, chemistry itself says fish can't work — proteins crumple under eight hundred atmospheres. The Mariana Snailfish answered with TMAO-stabilized proteins and a body of living jelly, no swim bladder, no surrender. She is the deepest fish ever caught, and the throne is hers.
