The living story
The story so far
Every other animal in the Twilight hunts in blue. The Loosejaw spent its evolution learning to make red — a color the deep sea forgot — and to see it with a borrowed pigment no other animal owns. It is the only thief in a city where nobody locks anything, because nobody knew red existed.
Happening now
It cruises just below the migration lanes with its spotlight off, waiting for the moonless nights when the lanternfish rise thickest. It flashes the red only at the last second — a private sunrise, just for the prey.
What may come
The Treaty of the Lure says stealing another's light is war. The Loosejaw has never stolen anyone's light, because its light is the one color nobody else can spend. The question is what it will do the night someone learns to see red.
