Her first glide was an accident — a slipped coil, a yelp, and then the most beautiful mistake of her life. She landed in the next tree over and immediately climbed back up to do it on purpose. She has been doing it on purpose ever since.
Happening now
She mapped every glide-path in the canopy: which branches, which winds, which landings. Young snakes study her charts. The charts are covered in doodles of herself looking heroic. The data is still excellent.
What may come
She is planning the Big Glide — from the emergent layer all the way to the river, a distance no snake has ever flown. She has been training for two years. The whole canopy will be watching. She is pretending not to care.
“Sirocco tried to outrun her own shadow at noon. She failed — the shadow arrived first, wearing a pattern she has never worn. Soar laughed until Sirocco described the pattern. Then he folded his wings and was very quiet for a long time.”

because the Big Glide is coming, and you’ll want to say you knew her before
The Coils
Snakes: cobras, mambas, pythons, vipers, boas — the hood, the strike, the squeeze. Fifteen coils of patience and lightning, ruling the warm hours by waiting.

Personality
The only snake with a frequent-flyer account. Soar launches herself from the high branches, flattens her body into a wing, and glides — not falls, glides — to the next tree, landing with the smugness of someone who has hacked physics. She has.
