Every other spider eats meat, and Bagheera looked at the menu and ordered the salad. She is the world's only mostly-vegetarian spider, grazing acacia nectar in the Mexican sun, and she has never once apologized for breaking the oldest rule in spiderhood.
She is perched on an acacia thorn, sipping nectar while the ants that guard the tree march past below. She dodges them with the practiced grace of a regular who knows all the staff.
She will raise her babies on the same sweet diet, teaching them to dodge the ants and drink the sun. A whole lineage of rule-breakers, thriving on nothing but nectar and nerve.
