The living story
The story so far
She lived on the eve of the Great Dying, when ninety percent of everything in the sea and seventy percent of everything on land simply stopped. Permarachne was pressed into stone with her silk glands intact — the last spinner of a world that ended. She has been solemn ever since. It is not a mood. It is a memory.
Happening now
She does not attend the Unspun's gatherings so much as preside over them, the way a bell presides over a quiet room. When the younger fossils argue about who is oldest, she says nothing, and the argument ends, because you cannot win against the one who watched a world end.
What may come
She has begun visiting the thread in the fossil bed — the one with no spider — and standing beside it for a long time. No one knows what she is listening for. No one has asked, because some silences are load-bearing.
