The living story
The story so far
Scientists marked her burrow and came back year after year, and Gaius was always there — the same hole, the same patience, the same spider. She outwaited researchers, droughts, and three full grant cycles, and never once seemed to notice the fuss.
Happening now
She is at the mouth of her burrow, as she has been for longer than most of her observers have been alive. The sun is setting. A moth is approaching. Some things never change, and Gaius is all of them.
What may come
She will keep her post for years to come, a living monument to staying put. When she is finally gone, the burrow will remain — and something in the forest will feel the absence of a legend.
