The living story
The story so far
She hatched electric blue in a single Indian forest smaller than a town, a living jewel in a shrinking world. Gooty knows exactly how rare she is, and it makes her furious — not proud, furious — because rare should never mean doomed.
Happening now
She is guarding her egg sac with the intensity of a general defending a capital. The Court has quietly posted extra lookouts, unasked. Everybody understands.
What may come
Her spiderlings will scatter to new keepers' homes, each one a tiny blue ambassador. Gooty will watch them go and count them twice, the way mothers do.
“She was asked about the thread in the fossil bed exactly once. She smiled, blessed a clutch of Gooty's spiderlings instead, and spoke of family — which is, the Unspun point out, the one thing the fossil thread was never attached to. Socotra tells the family part at every dinner, and nobody asks about the rest.”
because she is a living jewel in electric blue, and the world needs witnesses
because she is furious about being endangered — not proud, furious — and that matters
because keeping Gooty feels like keeping a promise the whole forest is counting on
The Tarantula Court
Slow, deliberate, magnificent. The court’s etiquette is elaborate and mostly about not startling anyone. Redknees, sapphires, and one Goliath whose footsteps have a bass line.
