The story so far
When the Bloom's roots and the Tubeworm's plume found each other in the dark, neither ate — so both bloomed. Ventbloom rose from the whalefall with her mother's roots braided through her father's plume, and the first thing she did was open her arms. The small things of the deep came to her immediately, the way they always come to fire.
Happening now
Ventbloom stands sentinel over the current whalefall, her plume crown brightening whenever a vent chimney warms the current. Larvae drift toward her the way keepers drift toward the quiz — she has become the deep's front door, and she refuses to call herself a queen.
What may come
Someday a vent will die and a whale will fall in the same week, and Ventbloom will have to choose which feast to attend. The sisterhood says she'll split in two to be at both. She says she'll simply bloom louder.
