The story so far
Meganeura monyi: 2.5 feet of wingspan — the largest flying insect ever — a griffinfly the size of a hawk, hunting dragonflies the size of seagulls in the Carboniferous oxygen-rich skies. Hawker has kept the wingspan and the attitude: in the Undertow she is the Crawling Dark's aerialist, performing slow loops above the dark water while the swimmers watch from below. The faction's fastest thing in its slowest medium. She and Flathead have a standing argument — sky versus shallows — that's been running for millennia. It's the faction's favorite sport. The wings are winning. The shallows don't care.
