The equinox tides are coming, the highest of the year, and Kingtide has been walking the seawall at dawn, reading the water like a letter. He says the harbor is restless about something. He hasn't said what. The gulls have gone quiet over the deep channel.
The other orders have started asking him to teach tide-reading — the Stormborn, the Skybreakers, even the Mindfire. Kingtide says the first lesson is patience, and the second lesson is also patience, and most students quit by lesson three.
