Its arms are twenty feet long and bent at strange elbows, trawling the dark like fishing lines. Science has seen the Bigfin Squid maybe twenty times — ever. It is the Midnight's most confirmed rumor: everyone agrees it exists, almost no one has met it.
It trails its impossible arms through the deep currents, elbows bent, waiting for whatever the elbows are for. The Midnight's other squid give it room — not from fear, but from the awe you feel around a legend.
Twenty sightings in all of human history. The twenty-first will change everything, or nothing — the Bigfin Squid has never cared which. It will keep its elbows bent and its own counsel.
