The living story
The story so far
Fewer than two dozen encounters in all of human history. The Long-Armed is the elder of the bigfin squid — twenty-foot arms bent at strange elbows, trawling a dark that has almost never been watched. Every sighting is an event; every event is a rumor confirmed.
Happening now
It trails its ancient arms through the deep currents, older than the expeditions, patient as geology. The young Bigfin of the Midnight is its junior by centuries; the elder acknowledges the junior the way mountains acknowledge hills.
What may come
Twenty sightings. The twenty-first could come tomorrow, or in another century. The Long-Armed is not waiting to be seen — it is simply being, at a scale the cameras can't quite hold.
