The living story
The story so far
At nearly five kilometers down lives the gentlest octopus on Earth. The Dumbo has no ink, no venom worth mentioning, and no enemies it bothers to keep. It flaps its ear-like fins and drifts, swallowing small prey whole, being — by every available measure — lovely.
Happening now
It drifts between the anglerfish territories, too gentle to fight and too deep to be caught. The lure-lords have an unspoken rule: nobody bothers the Dumbo. It is the Midnight's one neutral party, and everyone needs one.
What may come
Gentleness is a strategy that works until it doesn't. The Dumbo's young are drifting shallower each generation, testing whether the world above is as kind as the dark below. The Midnight hopes so, for their sake.
