It is shaped like a football, armed like a trap, and lit like a shrine. The Footballfish holds the Midnight's second-greatest lure territory, and it earned every meter: in a zone of traps and ghosts, it is the trap the ghosts avoid.
It drifts its round bulk along the treaty boundary, esca lit, daring the dark to argue. The Black Seadevil's lamp burns on the other side of the line; between them lies the most politely contested border in the ocean.
Round things roll. The philosophers say the Footballfish is slowly, over centuries, drifting toward the Seadevil's territory — or away from it. Nobody can tell which, including the Footballfish.
