The living story
The story so far
On the surface its cousins fit under a leaf. Down here, deep-sea gigantism made it the size of a housecat — fifty centimeters of armored patience. The Giant Isopod can fast for years between whalefalls, then eat until it can barely walk. It has never once complained about the wait.
Happening now
It patrols the abyssal plain in its slow amble, waiting for the next Fallen Feast. The Osedax sisterhood has its table ready; the Isopod will arrive exactly when it means to, which is to say, eventually.
What may come
Years of fasting, then a feast. The Isopod's metabolism is a masterclass in delayed gratification — and the falls are getting rarer. The Abyss wonders how long patience can stretch.
