The living story
The story so far
Two bloodlines, one body: the gulper eel's pelican beak braided with the black swallower's distensible stomach. Gorgemaw is a mouth with no bottom and a stomach with no ceiling — distensible everything, from beak to belly. It eats what it wants, which is everything.
Happening now
It hangs in the dark between zones, beak half-open, stomach ready. The Gulper Eel finds the combination flattering and slightly alarming; the Black Swallower simply respects the ambition. The migration fleet gives it a wide berth.
What may come
There is no known upper limit to what Gorgemaw can swallow — the braid is still testing. The dark's old hunters are watching with professional interest and personal caution. Something will eventually be too big. Probably.
